City Playhouse Theatre

Welcome to our eighth season of outstanding theatre, dance, and music at the City Playhouse. In partnership with the City of Vaughan, the City Playhouse is committed to showcasing professional and community based theatre, performances in dance and music from professional and community based production companies, art exhibitions and multicultural events. Theatre education and outreach programs are also part of the City Playhouse mandate – opening our doors and establishing long-term connections with the community.

After a successful year with our “All Canadian Series” we are pleased to announce 7 exciting shows for theatre-goers of all ages for our upcoming season. Starting off the series in September is “Sex, Pies and a Few White Lies”, the hit one-woman show about life, love and loss that will leave you and your friends wanting more. In Octobber, the Toronto based dance company Dance Larchaud brings to the stage their cutting edge production “Back to X”. Also in October is “Harvest” a comic story of a retired couple who have decided it’s time to move to a condo in the city, but have a hard time letting go of their farm. December brings the talented voice of Desriee Beausoleil with the world premiere of “The Sound Track of my Life”. In February “Underneath The Lintel” delivers a twisted mystery of a tale that will open your mind to a world of possibilities. In March the sweet country blue grass tones and tongue-in-cheek style humour of  “The Dirty Dishes Jamboree”. Closing off our “All Canadian Series” in March is the Humber River Shakespeare Company production of “Twelfth Night”, a fun-filled romantic comedy.

In keeping with promoting our local theatre groups the City Playhouse is pleased to offer an entertaining bill of local programming for the entire family. Starting in October, Shadowpath Theatre presents “Paradise By the River”, a hard-hitting drama about a man of Italian descent who is held against his will at a prisoner-of-war camp in Petawawa, Ontario during WWII. In November Marquee Productions brings to the stage the all time family hit “Annie”. In December we welcome back our resident youth theatre company, City Youth Players with their musical production of the broadway hit “Hairspray”.
