Who We Are
Smart Commute - North Toronto, Vaughan (formerly Smart Commute – Black Creek) is an award winning non-profit committed to reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality and advocating for sustainable transportation. Our recent name change reflects a change in our service area to include all of the City of Vaughan.

What We Do
Smart Commute North Toronto, Vaughan (NTV) partners with champions of sustainable transportation including the City of Vaughan, Regional Municipality of York, City of Toronto, Transport Canada, TRCA, York University, Knoll and Universal Workers Union Local 183. Together, we help reduce business costs and foster healthier work environments. Due to our recent success in Northwest Toronto and Vaughan, we have started a Northeast Toronto initiative.

Smart Commute NTV is a voting member on the Spadina-York Subway Extension Committee. We are supportive of a subway to the Vaughan Corporate Centre and are actively advocating for improvements to sustainable transportation infrastructure in the City of Vaughan. We provide trip reduction programs in collaboration with York University and other businesses in North Toronto, representing a significant portion of the City of Vaughan’s commutershed. We operate an active Smart Commute NTV Bicycle User Group (BUG) and carpooling websites tailored to area employers. Smart Commute NTV is part of the York Region Corporate Clean Air Task Force. We are a participating stakeholder of the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. We work with local transit agencies to promote increases in ridership, frequency and accessibility.

Smart Commute NTV’s total service area is 377 sq. km. During peak period each day, 204,000 vehicles travel through this region bordered by King Vaughan Rd., Hwy 50/Weston Rd., Hwy 401/York Mills Rd. and Victoria Park Ave.

How We can Help Your Workplace
Smart Commute NTV provides tailored services that are flexible to meet our partner’s needs:

  • Detailed site assessments and surveys to monitor program implementation and generate measurable results
  • Consulting expertise on trip reduction including parking management, carpooling, cycling and transit improvements
  • Customized ride-matching to connect employees to carpools
  • Educational materials, focus groups and workshops for employees
  • Events tailored to your workplace to promote and raise awareness of commuting options including cycling, public transit, walking, tele-working and flex-hours
  • Advocacy for sustainable transportation infrastructure
