Recycling
- Owners / Property Managers are responsible for ensuring recycling toters set out for collection are free of contamination. A recycling toter will be deemed 'contaminated' if the contents are mixed with garbage and / or non collectible waste. CONTAMINATED RECYCLING TOTERS WILL NOT BE COLLECTED.
- To ensure compatibility with the contractor’s collection vehicles, it is recommended that the Owners / Property Managers purchase recycling toters from the City.
- Due to space restrictions, a few small multi-unit residential buildings have been approved by the City to use the standard city issued curbside blue box distributed by the City. In these scenarios, it is the responsibility of the Owners / Property Managers to purchase the blue boxes from the City and to distribute the blue boxes to each residential dwelling unit in the building.
Accepted Recycling Materials
All material accepted in the City’s recycling program can be ‘co-mingled’ (i.e. mixed together). Owners / Property Managers MUST remove any non acceptable recycling material placed in the recycling toters before setting it out for collection.

Recycling Tips
- Have a separate garbage container in (or near) the recycling room for residents to use to dispose of plastic bags and other non acceptable recycling material.
- Promote recycling throughout the building. Place signs depicting what are acceptable and not acceptable in the City’s recycling program in the recycling / garbage room as well as other areas frequented by residents.
- Monitor recycling area(s) to ensure residents are following correct recycling procedures.
- Ensure recycling toters are not overflowing. This may require the Owners / Property Managers to obtain more recycling toters or to cycle recycling toters more frequently.
