Vaughan Welcomes New City Manager Print E-mail
Thursday, 17 September 2009

At the recent Committee of the Whole meeting, Vaughan Council officially welcomed Clayton Harris in his new role as City Manager. His appointment was effective September 1, 2009.

?Mr. Harris has been a huge asset to Vaughan since joining the City from the private sector in 1991 as Commissioner of Finance & Corporate Services,? said Mayor Linda Jackson. ?I believe that he has the experience and has demonstrated the insight that is critical to lead the administration through its next phase of growth."

Mr. Harris graduated with an Economics degree from the University of Western Ontario and earned an Honours Business degree from the University of Windsor. He obtained his Chartered Accountancy with the firm of Coopers & Lybrand, pursuing a career that included audit and consulting assignments throughout Ontario, the United States and Africa. Since 1991, he has worked for the City of Vaughan as the Commissioner of Finance & Corporate Services, assuming additional responsibilities in 2007 as the Deputy City Manager.

?It is a distinct honour for me, professionally and personally, to be appointed City Manager,? said Mr. Harris. ?I appreciate this opportunity and the confidence that Mayor Linda Jackson and all Members of Council have shown in me. I share their excitement about the City?s future.?

Mr. Harris succeeds City Manager Michael DeAngelis, who will stay on in an advisory capacity until his retirement on January 31, 2010.
