Vaughan Soccer Club players and coaches recently joined residents and Members of Council at a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official opening of the McNaughton Park Artificial Turf Soccer Field.
“Soccer is the world’s most popular game and is played and enjoyed by people of all ages,” said Mayor Linda Jackson. “It is a sport which encourages physical fitness at a time when too many of our children lead inactive lifestyles. It allows youngsters to remain active and outdoors and helps develop positive social values – dedication, teamwork and a strong work ethic come from playing the game. As well, lifelong friendships can be formed.” The new field is located at 20 McNaughton Road and measures 1.803 hectares in size. Amenities include an FIFA 2-star artificial turf soccer surface, bleacher seating area, upgraded electrical lighting systems, a LED scoreboard, chain link sports fencing and an asphalt parking lot. The Vaughan Soccer Club donated $120,000 towards construction of the field. “Soccer is extremely popular in Vaughan and has become an important part of our community,” said Ward 1 Councillor Peter Meffe. “Not only does Vaughan have several first-class soccer facilities, we are also home to the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Ontario Soccer Association.”
