The City of Vaughan hosted the opening ceremonies of the York Region Ontario Senior Games at the Garnet A. Williams Community Centre today. Endorsed by all York Region municipalities, the Games provide Seniors over the age of 55 with the opportunity to meet new friends and participate in a number of recreational and sports activities.

“We are very pleased to be hosting the opening ceremonies this year,” said Mayor Di Biase. “The Senior Games bring people together from across the Region to enjoy a little friendly competition and fellowship.”

York Region Ontario Senior Games take place from May 26 to June 13, 2003, with events being held in each of the nine York Region municipalities. Organized by the York Region Ontario Senior Games Committee, the goal of the annual games is to promote a healthy active lifestyle among senior residents.

This year’s activities range from card games to sporting competitions such as golf, walking, and swimming. The first event was Progressive Euchre held at the Garnet A.
