The City of Vaughan hosted the opening ceremonies of the York Region
Ontario Senior Games at the Garnet A. Williams Community Centre today.
Endorsed by all York Region municipalities, the Games provide Seniors
over the age of 55 with the opportunity to meet new friends and participate
in a number of recreational and sports activities.
“We are very pleased to be hosting the opening ceremonies this
year,” said Mayor Di Biase. “The Senior Games bring people
together from across the Region to enjoy a little friendly competition
and fellowship.”
York Region Ontario Senior Games take place from May 26 to June 13, 2003,
with events being held in each of the nine York Region municipalities.
Organized by the York Region Ontario Senior Games Committee, the goal
of the annual games is to promote a healthy active lifestyle among senior
residents.
This year’s activities range from card games to sporting competitions
such as golf, walking, and swimming. The first event was Progressive Euchre
held at the Garnet A. Williams Community Centre today. The City of Vaughan
is also hosting the Bocce competition at the Fruili Centre in Woodbridge
on Tuesday, June 3, starting at 9:30 a.m.
