| Residents joined Mayor
Linda Jackson and Members of Council recently at the official opening
and name unveiling of the City's newest green space - Thornhill
Green.
"This is the first passive recreation park in Vaughan which emphasizes
the open-space aspect, and includes low development of features
such as playgrounds, and stresses walking and relaxing," said Mayor
Linda Jackson. "The design of the park enhances and complements
the surrounding area. I would like to extend my thanks to the Liberty
Development Corporation for their generous financial donation. It
allowed the City to incorporate features which would not have normally
been possible."
The new green space joins more than 630 hectares of parks and open
spaces in Vaughan and was named with the help of residents who were
invited to submit possible titles. The August 17 celebrations were
highlighted by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and entertainment and included
a magic show and performances by buskers and clowns. Complimentary
refreshments were provided.
The park is located at 19 Beverley Glen Boulevard and has a total
area of 1.94 hectares. Features include a woodlot, two grand entrances,
one shade pergola and a combined junior and senior children's playground.
It has a circular design which incorporates an interconnected pathway
system.
"Thornhill Green is a wonderful addition to Vaughan's green spaces.
It provides the local community with a common meeting place and
the opportunity to take part in recreation and leisure activities
while enjoying the outdoors," said local Ward 5 Councillor Alan
Shefman.
