|

The 2008 Urban Design Awards were presented November 12 at the

initiatives that feature excellence and innovation in urban design,
architecture, landscape architecture and environmental stewardship
in Vaughan.
The presentations included two Awards of Excellence, five Awards of Merit, three Environmental Green Awards of Excellence and two Environmental Green Awards of Merit.
"The awards reflect the importance of design quality in creating a liveable and sustainable City," said Mayor Jackson. "They also emphasize the role that innovative and sustainable design play in maintaining Vaughan's position as one of the fastest growing and most economically competitive cities in Canada."
The awards program invited submissions from architects, landscape architects, engineers, planners, developers, consultants, contractors, owners and the public. Eligible types of initiatives include: residential, industrial, environmental sustainability, commercial, institutional, recreational, heritage, mixed-use and streetscape improvements. All projects are located in the City of Vaughan and entries must have been fully built after October 10, 2002.
A jury of urban design professionals, elected City officials and staff judged qualified entries based on the following judging criteria: Significance - City Wide Scale, Significance - Community Wide Scale, Sustainability Design, Compatibility, Innovation and Creativity, and Execution. The number of awards presented for each category was at the discretion of the jury. The Jurors Report which outlines the awards and all the winners can be viewed at www.vaughan.ca.

"I am privileged and proud to play a part in shaping our City, and
to have this opportunity tonight to acknowledge the contributions
that the various design, planning, and building professionals have
made to the quality of life in our City."
