Communities in Bloom is a non-profit organization that is committed
to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification
through community involvement and the challenge of a national program.
Communities are evaluated on the following criteria: tidiness, environmental
awareness, community involvement, heritage conservation, urban forestry,
landscaped areas, floral displays, and turf & groundcovers.
The City of Vaughan has participated in the Communities in Bloom
(CIB) Program from 2002 to 2010. It competed against other towns and
cities throughout Canada by population category. These included
provincial, national and international challenges.
In 2005, the City won the International Challenge and became the
first municipality to win in each of the categories within a three-year
period.
In 2006, the City continued its involvement with the CIB program
with its Schools in Bloom and Curb Appeal Programs. Local beautification
and community initiatives are supported.
