Come Celebrate
Character Community Week
This year the City is celebrating Character Community Week
October 27-31. The theme for 2008 is Inclusiveness: working
together to build a community where everyone feels included, empowered
and valued for their unique contributions. It has double resonance
in Vaughan - it's not only a Character Community attribute, it's
one of the core values of the City.
Two special events for staff are planned, featuring outstanding
guest speakers. (Note: for those who like good Italian food in a
great setting, one door prize of dinner for two at Kleinburg's Villagio
Ristorante will be drawn.)
On Wednesday, October 29 Canadian Football League Hall of Fame
star Terry Evanshen will speak. Terry lost his memory in a traffic
accident twenty years ago. Since then he has had to reconstruct
his identity one day at a time. His is a gripping story of the human
spirit overcoming great odds. His story became a best-seller by
June Callwood (The Man Who Lost Himself) and is coming
out as a movie in November.
Terry will be speaking in Council Chambers between 10:30 a.m. and
11:30 and between 2:30 and 3:30.
On Friday, October 31 Emmanuel Lopez, one of the world's top motivation
speakers, will speak between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30, also in Council
Chambers. Emanuel is known as "Motivatorman." His blog The Adventures
of Motivatorman, has been featured by the Washington Post.
It is considered a recommended resource for motivating tips.
So, come on out to one of the sessions. It's a time for inspiration
and a chance to win a great dinner for two.
Stay tuned for more staff activities and promotions, such as
a new website feature, as we launch Character Community Week.
