Selection Criteria

  • The winning name will be chosen based on how well it reflects the characteristics of the city centre vision (see below) for Vaughan.
  • The characteristics of the city centre vision are: a vibrant, diverse, economically strong and healthy environment. It will be a place that preserves and enhances green space and natural heritage features. It will celebrate Vaughan's community values and quality of life. It will be mixed-use: commercial, residential, recreational, etc.
  • Please take the time to review the material on this website and its links. It has been developed to help you generate quality entries.

  • Submission forms are available online and at city facilities (libraries and community centres). You may send your entry fax to 905-832-8143 or by mail to Corporate Communications at 2141 Major Mackenzie Drive, Vaughan, ON, L6A 1T1.

  • Maximum of three submissions per entrant. Only first three entries received will qualify.

  • Students may enter the contest. Parental/guardian signature/approval is required for students under 18 years of age.

  • Contest starts February 25. Deadline for submissions is April 30, 2009.

Judging of Submissions

  • The City Centre Contest Project Team of City staff members will narrow the list of finalists. This shortlist will then be presented in late May to the Vaughan City Centre Advisory Committee. They will select a final shortlist of three and Council will determine the winning entry, following circulation of the submissions to Council in late May.

  • The winning entry will be announced by Council at its June 2009 meeting. The winner will be notified by telephone in advance and will receive the award at the Council meeting.

  • Submissions must not infringe copyright. Please conduct a search online to verify your submission is original. All submissions of finalists will be verified.

  • In the event of duplicate entries considered for the winning submission, a draw will determine the winner.

  • Note: The City reserves the right to determine if there is a winner or not.
