STEELES AVENUE CORRIDOR URBAN DESIGN
AND STREETSCAPE MASTER PLAN STUDY

Purpose:
The purpose of the Steeles Avenue Corridor Urban Design and Streetscape Master Plan Study is to prepare Urban Design Guidelines, a Streetscape Master Plan and a Phasing/ Implementation Plan for the Steeles Avenue Corridor – Jane Street to Keele Street in the City of Vaughan.

These components will address the urban design objectives of the Steeles Corridor - Jane to Keele Official Plan Amendment (OPA) 620, and support Vaughan and York Region Official Plan objectives. The Spadina Subway extension through the study area, including a new transit station, is a main driver for this area’s intensification.

In keeping with OPA 620, the vision for Steeles West Corridor Jane Street to Keele Street is to transform the corridor from a primarily vehicle oriented traffic network into a transit-oriented, pedestrian-friendly, and multi-purpose urban environment.

Location:
The Steeles Avenue Corridor Urban Design & Streetscape Master Plan Study Area encompasses approximately 43 hectares, is approximately three kilometres in length, and extends from Keele Street in the east and Jane Street to the west. The corridor includes lands on the north side of Steeles Avenue (to the Hydro Corridor) in the City of Vaughan.

Timeframe:
The Study began in April 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2011.

Current Status:
The City of Vaughan Development Planning Department and the Consulting team of &Co Architects are currently undertaking the Steeles Avenue Corridor Urban Design & Streetscape Master Plan Study.

On July 7, 2010, the City of Vaughan and the Consulting team of &Co Architects held a stakeholders discussion group in the Public Hearing Room.
