Tornado Support Services (click to view brochure)

The Canadian Red Cross will continue to provide support services to people who were impacted by the tornado on August 20, 2009. Beginning on Monday, September 14, 2009 anyone who was affected by the tornado can call the Canadian Red Cross at 1-800-361-9448 extension 223 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. After hours, please leave a message. By calling this number, residents affected by the tornado can get information and links to services and support on topics such as:

  • Home – home repair, insurance, restarting your home business
  • Children – child care, before and after school care
  • Basic Necessities – food, clothing and short-term or long-term housing
  • Personal Needs – medication, glasses, dentures, hearing aid replacements
  • Utilities – what services to place on hold, what to have moved and what to request a refund for
  • Replacement of Identification – lost or destroyed personal documents

The Information and Referral Centres that have been open at the Father Ermanno Bulfon and Maple Community Centres will close on Saturday September 12, 2009.  The Information and Referral Centres have been open since Tuesday August 25, 2009 and were operated by the Canadian Red Cross with support from the City of Vaughan and The Regional Municipality of York.

Many people were impacted by the August 20, 2009 tornado in different ways. Although it will take time to repair and rebuild the areas that were affected, there are services and supports that can help.  Please call the Canadian Red Cross for more information.
