Improving Access to Health Care Services in Vaughan
Vaughan’s continued rapid growth has put the spotlight on the need for improved health services in our community. The Vaughan Community Health Centre (VCHC) has been up and running for over a year now and continues to register new clients – already surpassing 80 percent of its primary health care capacity, with its community education programs receiving new participants every day..

Providing Better Health Care Services in Vaughan
Plans for the future Vaughan hospital continue to move forward. The Vaughan Health Campus of Care has retained an architectural firm to begin design of the hospital buildings, and a request has been made to Vaughan Council to erect three signs on the site at Major Mackenzie and Jane Street. The goal of the large signs is to raise awareness of the hospital and to launch a major fundraising initiative.

Co-Chair, Task Force on Democratic Participation and Renewal



 

Moving Forward on Task Force Recommendations
Fifteen of the 16 final recommendations of the Task Force on Democratic Participation and Renewal have been adopted by Council and are now being implemented. The only one not approved was that all candidates be requested to report campaign donations on a voluntary basis over the course of a campaign, rather than months afterwards, as they are mandated to by the Municipal Elections Act. Another recommendation, to implement internet voting, was referred until such time as the security of such voting is unquestionable.

New Official Plan Nearing Completion
After more than three years of work, the City of Vaughan’s new Official Plan is expected to be completed by September. This plan will set out where and how Vaughan will grow over the next 25 years while at the same time taking into consideration important social, economic and environmental issues and objectives.

The mandate of the Accountability and Transparency Committee is to review policies and practices pertaining to confidentiality, accountability and transparency issues as they relate to City Council. Among its responsibilities was the hiring of an Integrity Commissioner, establishing a complaint procedure and creating an updated Code of Conduct for Members of Council.

In approving the 2010 Operating and Capital Budget, the City of Vaughan showed that although economies around the world have been affected by a significant downturn, we were able to weather this economic storm as a result of solid financial management. The budget delivers on City services, facilities and infrastructure. The 2010 budget is a reflection of how well-managed the City is. This quality of management translates into minimal cost to our taxpayers and value for our property tax dollars.
