Improving Access to Health Care Services in Vaughan
Vaughan’s continued rapid growth has put the spotlight on the need for improved health services in our community. The Vaughan Community Health Centre (VCHC) has been up and running for over a year now and continues to register new clients – already surpassing 80 percent of its primary health care capacity, with its community education programs receiving new participants every day.
IIn order to gauge the satisfaction of clients, the VCHC recently gathered information from a survey and focus group. The survey allowed clients to express their views on access, communication, quality of service, impact on health and overall satisfaction. The focus group also provided clients with an open forum to discuss issues and concerns about the Centre’s services and programs.
The results were very positive, with 99 per cent saying they were satisfied with the services being offered. Among the concerns raised by clients in the survey was the need for a dentist, housing assistance and more seniors programs.

The Centre re-visits its programs every three months in an effort to assess their effectiveness and demand from the community. They also welcome feedback anytime from clients and visitors.
The
VCHC also held a very successful first Health Fair, encouraging residents to come and find out what resources are available and how the Centre works. It also provided quality health and wellness information from health professionals, an opportunity to meet Centre staff and learn about the programs and services offered, and a cooking demonstration from Holland Marsh farmers.
Volunteers are an important component of the Vaughan Community Health Centre and are a way for residents in the community to
become involved and informed about the Centre. Opportunities are frequently available for residents and students who are interested in volunteering their time to improving health care services in Vaughan.
