What we need from you

How to make a complaint:
Please ensure that all complaints include a name, address, phone number, relationship to the property or individual that you are making the complaint about, and the issue. Should the complaint be made in print, one of the bylaw officers may wish to call and confirm information, or ask further questions regarding the issue.

Considerations to be taken when initiating a complaint:
Once you call in a complaint, your identity is protected both under City of Vaughan Policy and by the Freedom of Information Act. Click here for more information.

The City may request or require a complainant to act as a witness, should a case go in some circumstances to court. This is done as a last resort, usually if the City Enforcement Services Section is unable to determine that a violation has occurred without the evidence of the complainant. A complainant would normally be informed of this requirement at the time of the initial complaint or during the investigative process.

How complaints are processed:
All complaints are placed in a call for service complaint system that forwards the complaint to the staff member.

To ensure that the Enforcement Department is run effectively and efficiently, complaints involving public health and safety issues receive priority, otherwise they are dealt with on a first-come first-serve basis. We do not act on calls that are considered a civil matter between the two property owners.

Once an officer has concluded the investigation into your concern the information is entered back into the system for tracking purposes. The Enforcement officer will contact you with the results of the investigation.
