F.A.Q.s

Question: Are you hiring any fire fighters?
Answer: We will be accepting applications for our applicant pool from January 3 to January 24, 2008. Please be advised that if you wish to apply sooner than the previously stated date, your application will not be processed until January 3, 2008.

For more information please the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Recruitment page or in person at the Human Resources Department located at 70 Tigi Court, Unit 5 in Vaughan, Ontario.
Question: How do I become a volunteer fire fighter?
Answer: You must live close to either the Kleinburg or Woodbridge Fire Stations.  Your application may be submitted at any time.
Question: Do I need a permit to burn garden waste in my yard?
Answer: Yes. Homeowners/occupants may apply at any fire station, pay $25 fee and have a small fire to burn vegetation yard waste only.  Commercial land-clearing operations may apply to the Fire Prevention Division for a special permit, for a fee of $600.  Burning without a permit is a violation of the Ontario Code and City of Vaughan By-Law.
Question: Do I need smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors in my home?
Answer: Yes. Both types of detectors are required in every residential occupancy in the City of Vaughan.
Question: Can I possess and set-off family fireworks in Vaughan?
Answer: Yes, but you may only purchase/possess family fireworks for five days before Victoria Day and Canada Day.   Fireworks may be set-off only on these two days -- and only on your private property -- not on City streets or parks, etc.  Otherwise, an application from a licensed Fireworks supervisor, together with the $150 fee, must be submitted to the Fire prevention Division, for a Fireworks Permit.
Question: Can my kids visit a fire station?
Answer: Yes, but younger children must be accompanied by an adult.  Individuals or families may drop in any time.  Small organized groups may make an appointment by calling the Secretary to the Fire Chief at 905-832-8506 ext. 6304. For a list of station locations, please click here.
