| Vaughan
is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada at a time when cities
are assuming ever greater responsibility for government regulation
in the public interest. These are exciting and challenging times!
As Commissioner of Legal & Administrative Services and City
Solicitor, I act as senior legal advisor to City Council and the
Corporation, and am responsible for the Legal Services, Real Estate,
Human Resources, Clerks and Enforcement Services Departments. Our
commitment is to providing a timely, high quality professional service
to our internal clients and the public.
Our Legal Services and Real Estate Departments provide expertise,
opinions, advice and assistance to Council and City departments
while playing a key role in land acquisition. Legal Services also
represents the City in court, at Ontario Municipal Board hearings
and other administrative tribunals.
The Human
Resources division supports achievement of corporate goals by
providing strategic recruitment and staffing, labour relations,
occupational health and safety, access and equity, training and
development, and the development of compensation and benefits policies
and systems.
The Clerkâs
Department facilitates all Council and legislative approvals
through the Council/Committee of the Whole meeting structure. In
addition, this department also ensures decisions of Council are
communicated to City departments, ratepayers and clients.
Operating 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, the By-law Enforcement
Division is responsible for enforcing City of Vaughan By-laws including
Animal Control, Noise Restrictions, Garbage & Appliance By-laws,
Nuisance, Parking Restrictions, Signs, Zoning and Property Standards.
The division has also implemented a Special Enforcement Unit to
conduct patrols in City parks and properties to ensure compliance
with the Parks and Nuisance By-laws.
