Vaughan Celebrates!

MUNSCH AND “THE MONSTER” DRAW RECORD CROWDS AT VAUGHAN’S ANNUAL WINTERFEST

A record crowd of more than 8,000 people attended the City of Vaughan’s 21st annual Winterfest, presented by TD Canada Trust, on Sunday, February 7 at the Vellore Village Community Centre.

“Winterfest is one of the most anticipated City events of the year. It provides top-notch entertainment and activities free-of-charge to residents through business sponsorships,” said Mayor Linda Jackson. “It is exciting to come together with our families and visitors to celebrate this wonderful sense of community that makes Vaughan such a great city.”

Winterfest was headlined by celebrated children’s author Robert Munsch for a special story-telling concert on the outdoor Tim Hortons stage. Following his performance there was an autograph session with the author. Other stage entertainment included “Best of Both Girls,” a tribute to Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus.

This year’s event also featured an appearance by Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson, who also signed autographs for fans of all ages.

Winterfest also included a Kidz Zone featuring midway rides; face painting courtesy of Bell; Reptilia shows; arts and crafts; horse-drawn wagon rides; mini-horse drawn carriage rides; Little OBIE CN Safety Train Rides; Vaughan Public Libraries Storytime; Vaughan Fire & Rescue displays; pleasure skating and much more. The event also featured a new pizza-making workshop sponsored by Pizza Nova, and a Meet and Greet with Sesame Street.

“An event of this magnitude involves months of planning and the efforts of many dedicated staff, volunteers and community sponsors to make it a success,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “I would like to recognize the Corporate Communications Events Team, City staff and all those who made Winterfest a true community event.”

Joining the Mayor and Members of Council at the Official Welcome Ceremony were corporate and media sponsors and other local dignitaries.
