Planning to build a backyard deck? Or thinking of renovating a room in your home? In recognition of Building Safety Month, the City of Vaughan is reminding everyone to prioritize safety when planning construction projects, both big and small. Getting the proper permits before the job starts is the first step. 

 

Before you begin, check what permits are needed for your project. Permits are required for a variety of new construction projects and renovations, including pools, cabanas, sheds, new entrances to homes or a new addition. Review the types of pool permitsgrading permits and building permits required for various residential projects. You can also find important information about construction projects through Ontario One Call – a not-for-profit organization that facilitates excavation locate requests to ensure homeowners and infrastructure assets, such as buried cables, wires and cables, are safe when digging. Through the platform, you can conveniently apply for, submit, track and pay for permits, all at the click of a button. As well, a variety of building, grading and engineering permits are available, including infrastructure engineering drawing requests, pool inspection requests, pool permit renewals, development permits, grading permits and more. You can also request a copy of your home survey, apply for a permit to construct a deck, shed, sunroom or pool. The online development charge estimator tool can be used before signing a new lease, adding a mezzanine, second floor or addition. 

 

Service Vaughan also features a fully paperless development planning process so developers can submit applications (including for Pre-Application Consultation, Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment, Site Development, Part Lot Control, Interim Control, Draft Plan of Subdivision, Draft Plan of Standard Condominium and Common Element/Vacant Land Condominium), application-related information and drawings, virtually, with a secure login.
