Utilities

The City of Vaughan’s right of way contains multiple utilities within municipal roadways. The city’s right of way is located within the area between the middle of the roadway and the residential water valve. This area will have several utilities, including gas, hydro, water and telecommunication cables. The City’s Utility department co-ordinates the installation of new utilities and addresses any concerns regarding telecommunication exposed cables, pedestals, cabinets and ground-level boxes.

Contractors are granted access to work within the city’s right of way to install and maintain equipment. Once complete, the work area will be restored within the required timelines.

The time required to complete all work and restore the site is within six months of any work start date. If there are any concerns regarding damaged equipment or post-construction worksites, please submit a service request.

Before digging in any areas of the city’s right of way, you must contact Ontario One Call to locate existing equipment underground. Telecommunication cables can be found 1” to 12” underground, and only a qualified technician can verify the safe place to dig.
